Playa Blanca has some of the best running routes in Lanzarote

Lanzarote is well known as a great sports destination in Europe. With many hotels or resorts greatly equiped or even some specifically being built (like Club La Santa) for training or enjoying an active holiday, plenty of yearly events taking place in the island like the Iron Man or the Wine Run, the popularity of Lanzarote as a active holiday destination is increasing every year.

Playa Blanca is located in the southern part of the island, but its characteristics make it the perfect resort in Lanzarote if you’re into running even when on holidays. With a promenade that streches for 8km from one end to the other, and many trail tracks on the protected National Park of Los Ajaches, where the faboulous Beaches of Papagayo are located, there are all sort of routes for running lovers.

If you’re staying at Villas de la Marina, a pretty good route is to begin your run in the promenade as it goes through Marina Rubicón and head east towards the beaches of Papagayo. Just before the promenade gets to an end you can turn left and go behind the Gran Castillo hotel until you reach the beginning of the dirt track that leads to the beaches. To the right, you can see a map of this 10km route, and download a GPX file clicking here.
