Things to do in Playa Blanca when travelling with children

You’ve finally made your mind up and Lanzarote is next on your holiday agenda. You’ve heard that Playa Blanca is the trendy resort, the one with the best beaches, the best hotels and a beautiful marina full of cool bars and restaurants. As you’re travelling to Playa Blanca with children you are considering staying in one of the many amazing villas (like Villas de la Marina) that you can find in in the area as it gives you greater flexibility and cost-wise is an interesting option. But what can you do with them during your holidays in Playa Blanca? Here is a list with suggestions:

Waterparks

: luckily for you, Playa Blanca hosts not one but two waterparks. They are not massive waterparks like Siam Park in Tenerife, but they will provide a few hours of fun and splash. Both located in the Montaña Roja area, you can get their contact details from their websites.

Dino Park

Playa Dorada beach

: Playa Blanca (White Beach) is very aptly named as all of the beaches it hosts have pristine white sand. Within a 15 minute walk of Villas de la Marina you can find Playa Dorada, a great beach if you go with small kids as it has an artificial reef that guarantees the sea is always calm there. Plenty of services like showers, sunbeds, etc, and even the possibility to do some watersports like jetski or banana rides.

Papagayo Beaches

: Another beach option is to go to the wonderful Beaches of Papagayo, located in a natural park so don’t expect the same facilities you can get in Playa Dorada. Many coves await and regardless of the time of the year you go, they never look too busy. The closest is Playa Mujeres, which is within a 30 minute walk (avoid walking if you go with small kids as there’s a short hike to be done) or a 10 minute drive. However, i’d reccomend to go to Playa de Papagayo (or Playa del Pozo which is right next to it) which is 5 more minutes by car. Some will perhaps find it more attractive to get there by boat, as there’s a taxi-boat service leaving from Marina Rubicón several times a day. Click here for time schedules.

Rent a bike

: Playa Blanca is a great resort to rent a bike as it was planned with wide streets and it’s mostly flat. There’s an 8km promenade with lovely views, but bear in mind you are not allowed to bike in the area between Playa Blanca and Marina Rubicón, as it’s the most crowded part. All villas (except number six) at Villas de la Marina have large private parking spaces where you can leave your bikes. You can rent a bike at Magma Bike, located within a 5-minute walk from Villas de la Marina, or if you want to try a bike that you can even ride through a beach you can try Emotion Fat Bikes from Las Coloradas Shopping Centre.

Go on a boat trip

: Playa Blanca is a resort with two harbours, so going on a boat is almost a must. Without a doubt the best day out on a boat will be on the Chill Out Cruise. A 4 hour trip to the beaches of Papagayo where you will be able to have a swim from the boat, practise snorkling or paddle surf, have a go at fishing and enjoy the most delicious barbeque you can have on a boat (check their TripAdvisor page for more opinions). A perfect trip for all the family, especially considering that the trip goes with a maximum of 12 passengers. Another option, especially if your children are teenagers is to rent a kayak, a stand-up paddle, or even your own hobbycat; this can be done from Oceanride Sailing in Marina Rubicón.

Diving course

: Lanzarote’s coast has a marvellous underwater life, and you and your kids can have a diving training course from Rubicón Diving in Marina Rubicón, just a few minutes walk from Villas de la Marina. If your children are 10 years old or older, don’t hesitate to give it a try and once you get your certificate you will get to see the brand new Museo Atlántico, the only underwater sculpture museum in Europe, located just outside Marina Rubicón.

Walk to Montaña Roja

: In the southern part of Playa Blanca you can see Montaña Roja, a dead volcano from where you can get some incredible views of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The walk up is apt for kids from 6-7 years and older, but make sure you are all wearing proper walking shoes or trainers. Getting to the base of the mountain from Villas de la Marina is approximately one hour, and getting to the top an additional half an hour. Make sure you take plenty of water as there isn’t any to buy on the area.

Rancho Texas Park

: Ok, the Rancho Texas Park is not located in Playa Blanca but they do provide a daily pick up service nearby Villas de la Marina. It’s the best theme park of Lanzarote with plenty of amazing shows that your children (and also adults) will enjoy lots. Essential visit if you’re staying in Playa Blanca with children.
